  • Losing Weight With New Years Resolutions And Exercise

    We have all made them:  New Year’s Resolutions!  Every year we have the best of intentions to lose weight or stop smoking, thinking this year is going to be different.  This year I’m going to do it right.  We make these commitments to ourselves to either workout at home with exercise videos or join the local health club with the hope that we will make a change.  The real question to ask yourself though is:  How can this year be different than the previous years resolutions?  How can I make a lasting and distinctive change in my life for the better?

    The place I would start is by asking yourself some soul searching questions.  Start with the question:  What exactly do I want?  I’m not looking for answers like: I want to lose weight, or I want to look better, or I want to feel more energetic.  What I’m looking for is something deeper; tell yourself what losing the weight would give you.  Would it give you a stronger sense of self?  Or would it give you the energy to play with your kids?  Go deep and take a few days to reflect on the question.  Because losing weight is a pretty basic formula:  Move more and eat better.  The hard part is finding a way for exercise and good nutrition to become a part of our identity, to become so natural to us that even on a hard day, it is just something we do because that is just who we are. 

    This New Year, don’t just jump into the latest fitness hype – chose a program designed around what you want.  Make exercise just part of what you do and whom you are and before you know it, your outside will match how you feel on the inside.
